Unfold the mistery of human life around two millions years ago.

Sangiran Early Man Site or commonly known as Sangiran Museum is nestled merely a forty four-minute drive (20 km) north of Surakarta City, Central Java, Indonesia, and it has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
Sangiran archaeological site, the homeland of Java man, covers the total area of 56 km2 within three Sub-districts in Sragen Regency; Kalijambe, Gemolong, Plupuh, and one Sub-district in Karanganyar Regency; Gondangreja.

1,5 millions years ago

When the earth temperature decreased, as a result the shallow oceans became land. And Sumatera, Java, Kalimantan connected with the Asia Continent then became a vast land called as Sunda Shelf. And Homo Erectus emigrated to "Sangiran" and settled there long.

450 thousands years ago

Homo Erectus could make fire, and they were considered as inteligent creatures due to their ability to make sharp stone axes for hunting and skinning their game animals.

100 thousands years ago

Unfortunately they became extinct which presumed for three things:
A meteor showered, a volcanic eruption, an extreme environmental condition changes, and they couldn't adapt.

0,9 millions - 0,2 millions years ago

The area of Sangiran had become a land while the activity of a volcano was still progressing. The volcanic rocks erupted from the volcano often carried away by rivers which passed through Sangiran and then created savana with less trees.
The water flow which carried rocks and fossils of animals became sediments in Sangiran and formed some layers of land where the majority of the ancient human fossils of Homo Erectus were found.
The picture below is layer of land from the eruption of ancient Lawu mountain which is 1,8 years old where Sangiran Museum was built on it.
