Soto Segeer Mbok Giyem Salatiga

Arisarmu  - Soto eating has become a lifestyle for most people in Salatiga. It's proofed with number of soto stalls easily found in this small town, one of them is "Soto Segeer Mbok Giyem.

Cultural diversity in Indonesian archipelago also visibles in its unique and delicious dishes, such as "Soto", which each region has its own specific taste and ingredients. However, this Indonesian soup (soto) which commonly eaten as main course particularly compiled of broth, meat, vegetables and rice or "ketupat" (compressed rice cake. See: Soto Sokaraja), can be served at any dining time.

Last sunday, after attending morning service at GKJ Ambarawa, my friends and I dropped in at "Warung Soto Segeer mbok Giyem" in Blotongan, Sidorejo Sub-district, Salatiga for having breakfast. It was my first time to enter that eatery.

Soto Seger mbok Giyem which is originally from a neighbour town Boyolali, has been around since 1950s and has opened many branches in some cities including in Salatiga.
The eatery is quite big and comfortable. Although it was busy at the moment, but luckily we got empty tables in the corner and a waiter approached us to ask our drink orders. He didn't ask for the soto option as it sold only "Beef Soto".

Here is the well known Beef Soto or Indonesian beef soup which consists of clear beef broth, beef, bean sprouts, sliced celery, sliced spring onion, fried shallot, rice and other condiments. And to enhance its flavour you may add soy sauce, "sambal" (chili paste), and lemon juice which you squeeze it from sliced lemons available on your table.

Many options of side dishes are already on your table as well to accompany your Beef Soto, such as egg satay, tripe satay, chicken intestine satay, fried tofu and many more.
