The rapid growing of Salatiga Town has decreased the number of open green spaces. This means, air temperature is escalating. However, the presence of "Hutan Kota Salatiga" (Salatiga Urban Forest), although its location isn't in urban area, and other parks may bring Salatiga back to be a nice cool transit town.
"Hutan Kota Salatiga", situated on jalan Lingkar Selatan or JLS (Southern Ring Road) Salatiga. It is opposite to "Taman kota Salatiga" (Salatiga City Park). It was inaugurated on February 25, 2009 on 3 hectares city owned-land by Central Java Governor H Bibit Waluyo (at that time). This forest managed by the Office of Environment and Forestry Salatiga (KLH). The vegetation composition of "Hutan Kota Salatiga", included acacia mangium, ficus elastica and fruit trees. This forest opens daily for free.
