Sendang Senjoyo Tengaran, spring well and Javanese tradition

The Javanese, one of many ethnic groups in Indonesia, rich of traditions which are passed down from generation to generation. Nowadays, Sendang Senjoyo (Senjoyo spring well) is a place to witness their existence.

Sendang Senjoyo, which possess some spring waters, is officially located in Semarang Regency. However, its location is close to Salatiga, it's only 2.4 kms from Salatiga bus station or 7 minutes drive. So, many people think that this place is part of Salatiga.

Senjoyo, a name derived from Arya Senjaya who owned supranatural power from an epic narrative, believed by local people as a meditating spot for Jaka Tingkir a long time ago before he became a ruler of Pajang kingdom.
Presently, some people, during certain days in a month and inspired by Joko Tingkir, do "laku kungkum", it means,  body soaking in a "sendang" (spring well) while meditating to get peace and compose, which is done at midnight.
Furthermore, one day before fasting month (Islamic calendar month called Ramadhan), many people gather there to do "padusan" (cleaning their bodies before entering a holy
month of Ramadhan)

My last visit to Sendang Senjoyo, i was really upset to see the place was dirty. If only the visitors, local people and the authority (local government) worked together to make this place clean and tidy.
I think Sendang Senjoyo can be a better tourism site for it has its uniqueness by combining its nature, tradition and local food.
However, i could still entertain myself by enjoying "bakwan jembak" (watercress fritters), this typical food from there, which i bought at IDR 5,000 for ten fritters.
