Ronde Sekoteng Jago Salatiga

Those who are really fans of ronde will agree that Ronde Sekoteng Jago has rich in flavour which make it special and unique if it's compared with the others.

Salatiga is a small town located between two big cities, Semarang and Surakarta. Many people regard that Salatiga has cool climate although nowadays it's getting hotter, especially during the dry season, sometimes it's pretty hot as result of clearing away trees in order to have space for building housings. Indeed it's much different when first I settled in this town in the year 2000.
Coffee plants grew in the locals' gardens were common sight and during the coffee blossom, I could witness the beautiful white flowers and smell their nice fragrance at the time when the morning temperature would be freezing and it's usually alongside with fog.

Fortunately, Salatiga has been a home for "Ronde", a traditional hot drink, for a long time. It's suitable for heating the body up during the cold weather.
Though there are many other ronde stalls within Salatiga region, however, "Ronde Sekoteng Jago" is undeniable the most renowned among others as it has rich in flavour and has been visited by many famous people, so, it's automatically boost its reputation.

Since "Ronde Sekoteng Jago" stall is popular, so if you think hard to find it as you should walk a few meters into a narrow alley, just ask around and the people will tell you the direction. And you may be surprised when you arrived at the stall, which has been maintaining the authentic recipe since 1950s, that many customers have already been there. It means you have to be patient to wait your order.

You may order either hot or cold drinks, "Wedang/Es Ronde Sekoteng" or "Wedang/Es Ronde Sekoteng mixed with peanuts". They both have similar main ingredients, such as sugar, ginger, sago, jelly, sugar palm fruit, candied oranges, and glutinous rice balls with crushed nuts filling. The only differences are, "Wedang Ronde Sekoteng" has extra ginger flavour but less peanuts and peanuts flavour as it doesn't contain the broth extraction from peanuts. However, if you don't like ginger flavour in your beverage, you can order "Wedang/Es Kacang Tanah" instead, which contains peanuts, glutinous rice with broth extraction from peanuts. This drink is also delicious with its broth is a bit thicker, and the peanuts are so tender and melted in your tongue.
