Pisang Kepok Kukus, a way you can enhance the flavour of this banana cultivar


Banana is found easily throughout the Indonesian archipelago. The fruit is not only diverse in size, colour, taste and firmness, but also in varieties. Kepok banana is one of banana cultivar which is mostly consumed after being cooked in traditional cooking methods. 

Unlike the other types of banana which taste delicious when they are yellow and ripe, people rarely eat pisang kepok (banana kepok) without being cooked.  It is a type of cooking banana because of the high content of the starch.

You can choose some different ways to cook pisang kepok. One of them is by steaming above boiling water until they are tender. This cooking method is healthy because it adds no fat and calories.

Pisang kepok kukus are Indonesian words for steamed banana kepok. This is very suitable to accompany your tea or coffee at any times. And as long as I attend neighborhood gathering, some of  the hosts serve pisang kepok with the other snacks.

Since this kind of banana is very favored and to plant it is not easy, so the price is more expensive compared to the other varieties. In addition, some pet birds also fed with pisang kepok.

I used to plant some pisang kepok trees in backyard, but as the trees became bigger and more and began to damage the back wall, so I decided to cut them down.
