"Pasar Klewer" - Surakarta's (Solo's) Iconic Batik Market

"Solo" has the largest "batik" and textile market in Central Java, and this becomes a part of some reasons why many people love to visit this cultural and educational city. So if you fond of wearing and collecting "batik" as well as enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and walking around on narrow corridors between stalls so much. Thereby paying a visit to "Pasar Klewer"  (klewer market) should be part of your trip to here.

"Pasar Klewer" lies on the west of "Kraton Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat" (a Javanese monarchy centred in the city of Surakarta) on 12.950 square meters with approximately 2.810 traders display a various of clothes, fabric, and supporting commodities. The location used to be a "Pakretan", a Javanese word for cart's parking area for royal nobility who wanted to see the king. Its physical building was built in 1971, but grievous when I heard it was burn down on December, 2014 until it could be rebuilt again.

"Pasar Klewer" used to be called" "Pasar Slompretan", but since the vendors in that market sold the fabric and clothes by draping on their shoulders, so they looked " "Kleweran", the fabric and batik almost touched the ground. At the time the goverment built this market. The name of "Pasar Klewer" was used.
As the centre of "batik" trading and a wholesale centre for many traders from Yogyakarya, Semarang, Surabaya and other cities in Indonesia. "Pasar Klewer" is truly worth a visit.
