Rawon: A Tasty Black Soup



Rawon, a tasty black soup is originally from East Java, one of the high population density in Indonesia which renowned for having interesting tourist attractions.

Many people both locals and foreign tourists may be amazed with the beauty of Ijen crater and Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. However, those awesome places aren't reducing the appetite of those who love culinary tourism and eager to experince the delicacy of locals dishes, one of them is "Rawon". 

The iconic beef soup of East Java Province will be perfect if it's served with "sambal" (chili paste), a salted egg and a shrimp cracker to accompany one of Indonesian staple foods, rice. The cooking method is: simmer diced beef with some condiments, such as garlic, red chili, galangal, including "keluak" (pangium edule) which provides a black colour and a typical taste. Then garnish with fried shallot and bean sprouts that will make an excellent combination and a nice colour.

In addition, rawon is easily found both in restaurants and "warung makan" (food stalls), even at wedding parties in other regions.
