Late Afternoon at Samas Beach - Bantul, Yogyakarta

Arisarmu - Going to Samas beach in the late afternoon was so marvellous in order to watch strong currents, big waves and amazing sky colors without any disturbance from tourist crowds and avoid from the sunburn.

After exploring four beaches in Kulon Progo Regency; Pasir Kadilangu beach, Congot beach, Glagah beach and Trisik beach, my next destination was its neighbor regency, Bantul.
One similarity while travelling to southern beaches in Yogyakarta Special Region is a gateway as a ticket counter with two or three ticket officers who usually one of them waves his hand as a sign for travellers to stop and buy entry tickets there.
One for all. It means only one ticket but it can be used to enter all beaches within the complex.

I was glad when I finally arrived at the gateway on Samas Rd, and I thought in  a few minutes I would be walking on sand. The entry ticket was IDR 6k (USD 0.45). It's written on the ticket; one ticket for all beaches nearby - Samas beach, Goa Cemara beach, Patehan beach, Kuwaru beach, Pandansimo beach and Pandansimo Baru beach. Unfortunately, only two beaches that I could visit.

Being the last beach I visited and it was already late in the afternoon or may less popular than its neighbor beaches. I suddenly realized that the beach was so quiet, although it was my first visit, I had heard the name of this famous beach for a long time ago. I didn't predict it would be quiet. In contrast to Goa Cemara beach that was so crowded on that day.

Samas beach has black sand beach, renowned for its big waves, strong wind and river delta that forms a freshwater lake which is used for fisheries development by The Fisheries Department of Yogyakarta Special Region. In addition, it is said that the beach is often used to hold the ceremony of "Larung Sesaji" (Sedekah Laut), an annual ceremony of a sea thanksgiving.

It was quiet in the beach in the late afternoon with less than fifteen visitors at the moment. We all seemed enjoy the sound of the waves and the beauty of the beach with the golden sun approaching sunset.
