Arisarmu - For you who think that having a local dish is part of a fascinating vacation, and if it is, so when you pass through Jalan Lingkar Selatan (Southern Ring Road) Mataram, you should drop in at one of the stalls which sells grilled fish.
Although there are some ways to cook fish, seemingly dry cooking method tends to be more exciting for customers who are waiting for their order. The fish is put on a grill above burning coconut fiber fanned by a bamboo hand fan to maintain the traditional method of grilling fish. All smoked fish is displayed on tables on the left and right roadside, precisely on the pavement by fish sellers to attract motorists and motorcyclists to stop in and enjoy sitting on any simple gazebos available for having grilled marine fish that is said to be tastier than freshwater fish.
So glad that I stumbled upon a culinary tourism in Loang Baloq after traveling nearly whole day to awesome Pink Beach in East Lombok Regency. On my way home to Ampenan, I passed through Tugu Gili Menang, which is a 5-junction road and first I didn't realize that I took a different direction from my departure, although it wasn't wrong, and even it was blessing for me that I discovered a nice place where I could have rest while having grilled saltwater fish.
And I chose to stop on the left side at Ikan Bakar Warung Bu Sumi . The stall opens daily from 10.00 am to 08.00 pm. At the moment it was rather busy with some customers who apparently came by motorcycles and they would order either to eat there or to take away. I ordered grilled Tongkol (Macharel Tuna) which cost IDR 10K (USD 0.70) and grilled Baronang (Rabbitfish) which cost IDR 15K (USD 1.05). They were served with hot chili sauce. I love the grilled Tongkol. It was perfect.
