Selong Belanak Beach, a Surfing Paradise for Beginners in Central Lombok Regency

Arisarmu - Central Lombok Regency is a land of stunning for both natural and cultural tourist attractions where travelers will be amazed to see Traditional Sasak Villages of Ende and Sade, then for you who love doing adventure by hiking up to mount Rinjani as well as explore amazing Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu waterfalls and of course enjoy breathtaking coastal scenes at Kuta beach, Tanjung Aan, Selong Belanak beach, Mawun beach and many more.

As it is noted by Wikipedia, Central Lombok Regency is the second-level administrative government in West Nusa Tenggara Province with its capital is Praya. It occupies the total area of 1.208,39 square kilometers. The northern part of this regency  borders with mount Rinjani which is officially nestled in three regencies; West Lombok, Central Lombok and East Lombok, while on the southern part faces to Indian ocean, and the western part adjoins with West Lombok Regency and with East Lombok Regency on the eastern part.

A visit to this regency is pretty much incomplete without visiting a row of amazing beaches face the Indian ocean. The most popular one is Selong Belanak Beach which is an excellent spot for beginner surfing.

Many travellers, especially foreign tourists, whom I saw when I visited Selong Belanak Beach in July last year, prefered riding motorbikes like what I did. It's located just 47 km south of Mataram where you will see unique landscape along the way that may be far different from you are living at the moment. It's typical of a tropical country.

Views at Selong Belanak beach

Selong Belanak is one of the best beaches I've ever visited. The scenery is so beautiful. The huge white sand beach with clear and clean water becomes a superb place to learn how to surf and the price to join a surf course for a beginner is IDR 150K  (USD 10.75) with a personal trainer for an hour, but if you just want to rent a surfboard you only pay IDR 50K (USD 4), although I saw some tourists brought their own surfboards.

A slow long wave in Selong Belanak Beach is perfect for a newbie in surfing, and some warungs at the beach are nice places for you to have food and cold drinks and you can also hire a sun lounge enjoying the sea breeze. If you need quieter spot, you just walk to the right side from the entrance away from those who do surfing.

As Selong Belanak Beach is also a small fishing village, so small fishing vessels are a common sight when you are there. This extraordinary scenery along with blue ocean and hills frame the beach as if to urge you to stay on the beach longer.
