Sonobudoyo museum, one of the most visited museums in Yogyakarta, exhibits many collection of cultural artifacts.
This museum, located on the northern side of "Alun-alun Lor" (city's main square), is only 500m from Sultan's Palace (The Palace of Yogyakarta).
Sonobudoyo museum was inaugurated on november 6, 1935 by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwana VIII.
The abundant collections of the museum reflect cultural process from Java, Bali, Madura and Lombok.
Gamelan
Gamelan is traditional Indonesian ensemble music which introduced to Javanese people in the era of Hindu-Buddhist and developed during the Majapahit Empire, is predominantly by percussive instruments.
It can be found both in Java and Bali.
Gamelan commonly played to accompany "wayang kulit" (leather puppet) show, dance performance as well as in Javanese wedding ceremony.
Balinese masks in the story of Ramayana
Dewi Sinta, Rama's wife, kidnapped by Ravana who was a demon king.
Hanoman (a white monkey) and the troops of monkey helped Rama. Finally, they could kill Ravana, burned his kingdom and rescued Dewi Sinta.
Kris
This traditional weapon, kris, mentioned in traditional folktales which possess magical power and extra ordinary ability, can be divided into three parts: blade (bilah), hilt (hulu) and sheath (warangka).
