Dining at "Lesehan Nasi Liwet" in Solo Baru - Sukoharjo

Arisarmu - "Nasi Liwet" is typical of savoury rice which is cooked in coconut milk and other condiments and it has also become a sacred part of Javanese culture.

As staple food for most people in the biggest archipelago country in the world, Indonesia, rice has been modified into many succulent dishes in the form of fried rice, porridge, "nasi liwet" and many more. Liwet is basically a traditional method of cooking rice by boiling it in a clay pot over firewood while it is stirred occasionally, yet boil the rice with coconut milk instead of water with some condiments, such as salt, lemongrass, bay leaf and garlic which is believed to taste more delicious better than if Nasi Liwet is instantly cooked with a rice cooker.

According to Wikipedia, Nasi Liwet is a typical cuisine from Solo (Surakarta),  Central Java, which is originally from Baki, a region in Sukoharjo Regency then becomes popular in Solo. It is served with "sambal goreng labu siam" (chayote cooked with some condiments and coconut milk), shredded chicken, "telur pindang" (tea egg or marble egg) and "areh" (seasoned condensed part of coconut milk).
Nasi Liwet is often served in "Bancakan", or Javanese communal dining style, on top of a banana leaf with assortment of side dishes. And the purpose is to thank the God for having new homes, or during "Nyadran" (after cleansing the ancestral tombs in the month of Ramadhan),  and other Javanese rituals.

On May 1st, on the way home I was accidentally passing Solo Baru after wandering to Gong Cave, Klayar Beach and Banyu Tibo Beach in Pacitan Regency. Then when I realized that I was in Solo Baru, a dwelling area which is arranged nicely, tucked away on approximately 250 hectares land in Sukoharjo Regency. Solo Baru has complete facilities and it is also said as a satellite city.

Feeling tired and hungry after riding a motorcycle for hours made me stumble upon "Lesehan Nasi Liwet".
Lesehan - style eatery sets up low tables and mats for customers for sitting while having food.
I ordered Nasi Liwet and Wedang Ronde, a ginger flavour drink with glutinous rice balls and peanuts. They cost IDR 21k (USD 1.50). It was around 5.30 pm while I was having my early dinner. And the dish was served on a banana leaf layered with a woven rattan plate looked great and appetizing although its taste was average. Because I've ever had the tasty one before. Fortunately the drink was perfect.
