Bubur Gudeg Is Also Nice For Breakfast

Arisarmu - What did you have for beakfast this morning? The answer will vary depend on who you are, where you are and what your nationality is and so on.

If you are westerners, your diet may consist of cereals, toasts, fried eggs or boiled eggs, bacon, butter, margarine, or jam with a cup of coffee or tea. They look so simple to prepare without consuming a lot of time and the diet of high protein makes you feel full and fit until lunch time. However when you are in Indonesia you will indeed discover  different local breakfast that you may want to try such as rice congee. And in this article I want to share my experience of having Bubur Gudeg for breakfast.

Bubur Gudeg is Indonesian words for rice congee with Gudeg, it stews or slow cooking of young jack fruit in coconut milk and other spices for several hours and it's served with shredded chicken, telur pindang (tea egg), krecek (spicy stewed skin dish) and kacang tolo (black-eyed peas). Since this dish takes long time to cook so most Indonesians usually buy it at warung (stall) as I did.

On fine saturday evening we were glad when Our aunt and her family from Jakarta came to visit us, on the following day I took them to Pasar Tiban which opens only on sundays from 05.30 am to around 10.30 am. My uncle sat behind the wheel. We came there around 06.00. It had already many people come there, fortunately we still got a space to park the car. Then after walking around. We stopped off at a simple warung displaying a various local dishes to have breakfast. It was my third time there but at that time I ordered Bubur Gudeg which its cost IDR 14K (USD 0.95). In my opinion, the soft rice congee and the savoury and sweet taste of Gudeg make a good combination and suitable for breakfast.
