Rolade - A Glance about The Most Favorite Fritter in Salatiga



No doubt most Indonesians like to eat fritters or fried foods because they are practical, easy to be made and they also taste good. Even if you don't like to make fritters by yourself. You can buy them instead. The sellers scatter at many places.

Although many people aware that those foods are not healthy as they contain high in fat and cholesterol and may harm their health. Anyway some people don't care about that.


Salatiga is a small town in Central Java Province. It lies between two big cities, Surakarta and Semarang. Similar with others regions. People in this town are also like to eat fritters.

Fritters may vary based upon the locals' favorite and the food source availability. Some regions in Central Java possess some common fritters, such as fried banana, fried cassava, fried tofu, bakwan jagung (corn fritter) and many more.

The difference that may not be found in other cities is rolade daun singkong. I was surprised when I first came to Salatiga and offered to taste rolade made of cassava leaf. I hadn't tasted it before, so honestly I needed more time until I could finally enjoy it.

If you are searching some fritters in Salatiga, you should taste rolade. it's a typical fritter from this town. Some sellers also mix it with white tofu to make a better taste of rolade.

By rolling boiled cassava leaves which have already been added seasoned white tofu, then cut into smaller pieces. Thereafter dip them into a liquid dough, and then insert them into hot oil. However some people prefer having rolade without added tofu.

Rolade is served with fresh chilies. Mmmm Yummy!
